Challenge Course Supervisor


 

Tripp Lake Camp is located in Poland, Maine. Founded in 1911, Tripp Lake is considered one of the finest girls’ camps in the country. Our 7-week residential summer camp for girls ages 7 to 16 offers a broad array of team and individual sports, performing and visual arts, and outdoor living in a fun and stimulating environment. Our co-ed staff come from all over the world to spend their summer on 260 acres with a mile of shorefront in beautiful Maine!

We are seeking an enthusiastic and proven leader to be our Challenge Course Supervisor to lead our ropes, rock climbing and outdoor living department. One of the primary jobs will be to ensure the delivery of activities within your departments are safe, fun and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Current certification in challenge course operation or documented experience and training from an ACCT vendor.

  • Experience in teaching challenge course skills to 7-16 year olds.

  • Desire and ability to teach children ropes, rock climbing, outdoor and teambuilding skills.

  • CPR and First Aid certification (or be confident that you will be able to gain this certification)

  • Exemplary communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Giant Swing, Zip line, Climbing and belay experience

  • Association for Challenge Course Technology Level 2 certification

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Deliver a fun challenge course program to campers.

    • Plan both high and low challenge course activities for campers and staff. 

    • Evaluate challenge course abilities of campers and staff.

    • Deliver progressive challenge course program activities. 

    • Evaluate the success of the challenge course programs and the development of the campers’ abilities and skills in adventure challenge.

    • Expand the camp’s activities with new games and initiatives. 

    • Develop new processing and debriefing tools. 

  • Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures in adventure challenge.

    • Provide guidelines for a program utilizing the initiatives and the challenge course.

    • Train other staff in their challenge course & rock wall responsibilities including spotting. 

    • Ensure campers and staff know and follow safety procedures for challenge course and rock wall activities.

    • Manage activities with the highest standards of safety.

    • Complete evaluation procedures on all department staff members.

    • Established leadership techniques of campers and staff alike.

  • Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in the challenge course program area.

    • Conduct daily check of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair. 

    • Maintain the challenge course equipment and elements. 

    • Clean challenge course area keeping it free of hazards and debris.

    • Keep inventories of equipment

  • Liaise regularly with the Director of Operations and /or Head of Maintenance to ensure the maintenance and upkeep of the challenge course and rock wall area. Other responsibilities

    • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned.

    • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnight, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.

    • Assist in the planning of any special events on or near the challenge course 

    • Additional duties as assigned.
