Activity and Cabin Counselors


 

Minimum qualifications:18 years of age, currently attending or have graduated from a four year college or university, no large visible tattoos or body piercings (willingness to cover visible tatoos), capable of living in a group environment, clean driving record, capable of abstaining from drugs alcohol and cigarettes pursuant to camp policy and capable of resolving privacy issues of young campers.

The most important aspect of your job is that you are a role model for the campers. Campers are watching everything you do and say.  It is important that every minute that you are visible to the campers that you demonstrate the qualities for which you were hired.  Fairness, sense of humor, no favorites, no obscene language or gestures, a sense of fun and adventure, are all examples of the qualities you should be displaying.

 

The basic elements of the position are camp supervision, cabin and activity positions. When counselors are on duty, it takes a village to supervise campers. Everyone takes part in keeping an eye on camper interaction and certain supervision positions will be assigned every day as well. Counselors are also in charge of running an activity. Activities are assigned based on staff preference and expertise. Activities range from a full waterfront of activities such as StandUp Paddleboards and canoes to land activities ranging from horses, to ropes course, mountain biking, guitar, ceramics, outdoor cooking, sports and more! All counselors are also in charge of a cabin each session. Our cabins consist of 7 campers and one or two counselors. Counselors are the surrogate parent for their group of campers that will be in their cabin for 2 or 4 weeks! The bond formed in a cabin over the course of a session amounts to life long friendships!    

 

Trips Staff


 

The Job:

*Lead campers and other staff on day trips, overnights, and backpack trips. 

*Food Preparation for day trips and overnight trips

*Teach campers to live in the outdoors safely and wisely by giving them the skills of fire building, outdoor cooking, hiking, and environmental procedures for camping in the wilderness areas.

*In addition to driving for out of camp trips significant driving for camp errands, doctor runs, laundry, and shuttle runs. 

*Be available at any time to fill in as normal “cabin counselor” or be assigned in camp tasks.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Significant camping/backpacking training or equivalent experience. 

  • Desire and skill to work with children.

  • Certifications: Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR, WFA & Food Server Sanitation. - Skylake will reimburse for WFA course and willing to pay towards WFR course. 

  • Clean driving record.  

  •  Familiar and comfortable with Leave No Trace Principles. 

  •  Be available for training session prior to the beginning of Staff Training. 

  •  All established criteria of traditional camp counselor position.

  •  At least 21 years of age.
