Additional Information About Oregon Museum of Science and Industry

Founded in 1944, OMSI is a center of excellence in science teaching and learning as well as a valued destination for the community. We are proud to be the largest museum-based outdoor education program in the country, operating at our two camps: the Coastal Discovery Center and Hancock Field Station. The Coastal Discovery Center at Camp Gray is located one mile from the Pacific Ocean, in Newport, Oregon. Camp Gray staff teach connections between ocean currents, flora and fauna, and the climate while hiking coastal forests, dunes, and beaches. Hancock Field Station is located in the Clarno Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument in north central Oregon. Hancock Field Station has access to one of the world’s most significant fossil sites, nearby canyons, archaeology sites, and the John Day River.
