Hiring:

 

 

Kayak Guides


 

You'll hone your outdoors and camping skills guided clients on a variety of tours in Resurrection Bay and the Kenai Fjords National Park, ranging from a few hours to multi-day expeditions.

Guides should expect to work 5 days a week, and sometimes long hours. Sometimes you will be expected to work overtime. You should not expect weekends off, and should expect rotating schedules and hours.

Guides should expect to work in all weather conditions. It is critical that all employees are comfortable enough to lead our clientele in these challenging conditions with a smile on their face.

 

Qualifications And Skills Necessary:

  • ACA or BCU Certification a plus

  • Wilderness First Responder Course a plus

  • CPR and First Aid Certified

  • Independent individual who can manage priorities

  • One year of Sea Kayaking Guide experience or equivalent

  • Physically fit; strong enough to lift 80 lb kayaks; load and unload kayaks on water taxi boat and to shore for clients

  • Knowledge of self rescue

  • Ability to rescue others

  • Ability to teach kayak lessons

  • Friendly, outgoing personality

  • Clean cut appearance

  • Well spoken and articulate

  • Eager to excel

  • Must work weekends and holidays

  • Natural history and interpretive skills a plus

  • Willing to work overtime if asked

  • Enjoys campfire cooking and is a good cook

  • Is very organized and thinks of every little thing….

  • Willing to do other responsibilities as needed such as helping with reservations; miscellaneous office work or outside work; equipment repair, maintenance, kayak repair, training etc.

  • Does not get seasick on boats (we use water taxi to transport to remote areas)

  • Loves camping

  • Willing to wait on clients when camping/guiding

  • Backcountry knowledge and skills

  • Professional, “Can do” attitude

 

Outside Crew


 

The “Outside Crew” is a “catch-all name” that has developed informally over the years. This person’s priority is the things that need to be done outside, with the main priority focusing on the boat operations of Miller’s Landing.

Qualifications And Skills Necessary:

  • Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs

  • Must be able to drive a tractor

  • Must be knowledgeable about outboard motors, their maintenance & repair and 2-stroke engines or willing to learn

  • Must have knowledge of salt water fish in Resurrection Bay and how to clean them properly

  • Must have basic boating knowledge. Boating certification preferable.

  • Must be willing to accept direction under minimal supervision

  • Must be willing to do yard, bathroom, store, and cabin maintenance & cleaning

Duties:

  • Launching rental boats and private customers’ boats with a John Deere 4×4 Farm Tractor or a Ford 4×4 Farm tractor.

  • Keeping the grounds clean and neat including the fish cleaning area and occasionally the toilets and laundry

  • Campground Security

  • Minor boat repair and engine maintenance

  • Assisting with water taxi loading and launching

  • Assisting with kayak check-out and check-in

  • Minor maintenance and cleaning throughout entire campground

We have a lot going on here in the summer, and we work very hard to keep everything running smoothly. Multiple fishing charters, kayak tours, and water taxis departing throughout the day keep us very busy! Keep in mind, we are at the end of the road, right on the border of the Chugach National Forest, and this is truly a no-frills resort!

Our season is May 15th to September 15th.
