Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Team


 

POSITION: The Leave No Trace organization seeks dynamic, tech-savvy, and outgoing applicant teams for the Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Team position for the contract period January 2025 through November 20, 2025.  

Using the power of science, education and stewardship to support and protect nature, Leave No Trace is on a mission to ensure a sustainable future for the outdoors and the planet. Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Teams deliver Leave No Trace education, programs, and outreach to communities across the country.

DESCRIPTION: Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Team members are passionate educators, skilled communicators and content creators, and ready to live, work and thrive on the road. Only pre-paired teams of two will be considered. Teams must be available and make a commitment for the entire contract period January 9, 2025 through November 20, 2025. Subsequent contracts may be possible.

Teams live and work on the road, camp 100-200 nights a year, and deliver Leave No Trace programs to youth and adults of all experience levels and ages. Teams also produce videos, weekly social media content, and detailed program reporting. Work and travel occur in regions of the country as needed by the organization, in areas ranging from wilderness to cities, indoors and outdoors, in ALL seasons and conditions. Teams are outfitted with a Subaru vehicle, basic equipment and supplies necessary for teaching and camping, and technology for communication needs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and present Leave No Trace workshops and programs – both in person and virtually - for groups of all ages and backgrounds such as park staff, college students, families, youth, guides and outfitters, recreation user groups and more.

  • Generate weekly communications and social media content including photos, written blogs, and videos for Leave No Trace’s website and social channels.

  • Lead workshops, guide discussions, participate in stewardship service projects, and collaborate with land managers and community organizations/stakeholders at Leave No Trace Spotlights and Hot Spots.

  • Exhibit in boothing/expo areas at trade shows, conferences, outdoor festivals, and other forward-facing events to promote our mission, membership, and partnership programs.

  • Communicate regularly with staff at Leave No Trace headquarters and onsite event hosts regarding program logistics, details and reporting.

  • Be ready to engage with whatever the day requires, representing Leave No Trace and program sponsors in a professional manner at all times. 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience teaching, training, or delivering educational programs and activities, with the ability and desire to work in both indoor and outdoor environments in all seasons and all parts of the country.

  • Interpersonal skills to facilitate work with a wide range of people and groups with varied backgrounds, including experience working across differences.

  • Savvy creating social media content, with strong skills in video production, editing and photography, including experience with varied social media platforms, Mac OS, Adobe photo and video editing software.

  • Must enjoy working with and educating both adults and children of all ages and all outdoor experience levels.

  • Charismatic and entertaining public speaking and writing.

  • High level of motivation, energy, creativity, adaptability and professionalism.

  • A flexible disposition as well as the ability to deal with an evolving, unpredictable, and demanding travel itinerary.

  • Established collaborative relationship and excellent dynamic between co-applicants.

  • Passion for conservation, outdoor recreation and stewardship.

  • Familiarity with Leave No Trace and strong interest in the organization’s mission.

  • Current certifications in, or ability to obtain, CPR and Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder (CPR & WFA can be obtained upon hire, with reimbursement).

  • Ability to maintain a stationary position (standing and sitting) and move/transport loads of 25 pounds or more for extended periods of time. Ability to travel safely in backcountry areas, occasionally traversing difficult and uneven terrain and carrying a pack.

TRAINING PROVIDED:

Depending on the chosen applicant teams’ experience, certifications and past training, additional training may include but is not limited to: Leave No Trace Level 1 or Level 2 courses (formerly Trainer Course or Master Educator Course, respectively); CPR and Wilderness First Aid; Subaru Foundations; Defensive Driving; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; and training with other staff including senior Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Teams.

SALARY/BENEFITS: Monthly salary of $2,900 per team member, two weeks paid vacation, 100% paid company health insurance or stipend, travel and living expense stipend, additional hotel stipend, a vehicle to use during the field-based portion of the contract, and basic gear and equipment for living and working on the road.
