When writing the story of your life, don't let anyone else hold the pen
“Being on the road since half a year and having the best teacher in life - traveling - has made it to the best time ever.”
I started off being quite an average human being. There was always a big part in me craving for uniqueness, happiness and freedom, but I didn’t love myself enough to be responsible for my life and my decisions. So, too many people told me, that it’s too risky to become a photographer or dancer and I should be realistic, rather than trying.
Well, the 18 year old girl that I was by that time listened to all those demotivating people, who didn’t believe in me and started a traineeship, where I exactly knew from beginning on, that its not the job I’ll be doing in the future. However, I still finished the internship, more or less to please others and to have an argument to be able to go and travel.
If I compare now, the knowledge I gained while being in school for 11 years plus the three years I spent in a vocational school, with what I learned while traveling is unbelievable.
Obviously the quantity isn’t comparable, but the stuff my brain was loaded with, which I’ll never use in my life again, didn’t give me any value. But all the experiences I made, especially being alone in a country you haven’t been before, is challenging. You don’t even notice how much it forces you to leave your comfort zone and that’s where the magic happens - you grow.
You would never make the same experiences while being stuck in your every day life and working for the same company, which you probably don’t even support.
Just ask yourself this simple question: If you get the message that you’re gonna die in a year, would you still be doing the same you’re doing right now?
If the answer is no, then you’re doing something wrong. But the good news are: you have the power to change it, right now. The only thing I can regret about the decision to quit my job and to leave the country is not doing it sooner.
To be honest, it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Stop listening to people who are trying to destroy your dreams, surround yourself with motivating and positive souls.
Once you’ve reached the level, where you can proudly announce that you’re ready to go in the wide wild world, everything will come to you automatically. Trust me, you’ll attract the right people, decisions and moments in your life. After some time you’ll discover new things about yourself, things, you’ve never thought about before. Not only that, you’ll become a stronger and better person.
So what is it, that is still holding you back? Is it really your job or maybe the fear of having uncertainty and leaving you old boring patterns?
I truly believe in the quote, “LIFE IS EITHER A DARING ADVENTURE OR NOTHING AT ALL” so stop existing and start living!
