Wilderness Guide / Camp Counselor
Experience beautiful Northwest Montana with Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp! We are seeking qualified individuals to join our team as camp counselors who are interested in specializing in our adventure programs. We lead high-school aged campers RAFTING on the Flathead River, SAILING on Flathead Lake, and BACPACKING in our nearby mountains, in addition to many other program offerings. Experience in working with youth in an outdoor recreation recreation setting is preferred; enthusiasm for the activities is required! :-) FLBC provides thorough training to be able to work as a wilderness guide and as a camp counselor.
Some of the job responsibilities may include....
Live with and lead a small group of campers through the planning and implementing of daily camp programs
Be attentive to the needs of individual campers by providing continual support and supervision
Adhere to risk management procedures and prioritize safety in all aspects
Promote a sense of community within the cabin group by debriefing activities with bible study themes in mind
Plan and lead worship and devotions each day with fellow staff members + campers
Cook meals for 8-12 people and create ways to involve campers with cooking or engaged in separate activities
Use training to guide campers through specialized activities
Provide encouragement and support for campers, chaperones, and staff members
Qualifications:
Affirm basic Lutheran Christian faith and live within its values
Have a working understanding of relational work, and an ability to work collaboratively with other staff.
Experience in outdoor and youth ministry preferred
Ability to work and keep a positive attitude for long hours in a majority outdoor setting
Effective communication skills: written, verbal, and computer
At least one year out of high school for wilderness guiding; other positions at camp are available for ages 16+!
FLBC summer staff go through a Wilderness First Aid training as part of our 2-week general staff training.
Staff selected as wilderness guides will then partake in activity specific training.
Receive bonus pay if you come to FLBC with an existing and current lifeguard certification, or participate in the lifeguard certification (provided by FLBC) in June.
You do not have to be Lutheran to work at FLBC; but must be willing to affirm basic Lutheran Christian faith and participate in an intentional Christian community.
All FLBC staff do a variety of jobs. While you may be trained to lead a specific off-site adventure, you will likely have the opportunity to also serve in other capacities as a part of one of our other programs. This may include going on a Day Camp, working in the kitchen, and much more. Staff training and summer camp is June 5 - August 6, with the possibility of arriving sooner to be trained in our High Ropes course.

Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp is situated in the majestic Rocky Mountains of western Montana. We are a camping ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America committed to proclaiming and living out the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Camp is owned and operated by 55 ELCA congregations in western Montana and is open year-round to groups of all ages. FLBC was founded in 1943 and is located on the west shore of beautiful Flathead Lake, about 40 miles southwest of Glacier National Park. On this stunning 250-acre waterfront site, the summer program serves over 2,300 youth of all ages, teaching about Christ and the appreciation of God’s creation.
