Program Director
Eden Village West is hiring a Program Director for Summer 2022! This is a residential position from May 31- Aug. 4th. Part of the summer leadership team at Eden Village West, the Program Director supervises and supports our program specialists in delivering an amazing program infused with earth-based Jewish inspiration.
Dates: May 31 - Aug. 4, 2022
Starting Compensation: $3500 (DOE) + Room & Board
Time Off: All staff receive one 24-hour day off per week, and at least 1 hour off every day
Responsibilities
Supervising and supporting all program team staff
Participating in pre-season programmatic visioning and curriculum development
Managing the program budget; ordering program supplies before and during the summer
Running trainings for program specialists during staff week
Managing implementation of camp programming, including:
Modeh Ani, Core daily program areas: bunk rotations and chuggim, Evening programs, Intersession, Shmooze, Shabbat, Staff programming
● Participating in pre-camp Leadership Team Orientation May 31- June 3rd (location TBD) ● Living in residence at Camp for the full summer season: June 6 - August 4th, 2022
Pre-camp Responsibilities
Facilitate program specialist pre-camp team video call (1-2 calls)
Facilitate follow-up video calls with each program area individually (6-8 calls)
Review program area supply inventories and order additional supplies as needed
Plan staff training sessions for program specialists as well as some all-camp sessions
Additional pre-camp responsibilities TBD based on Program Director’s availability, interest, and skill set

Digital Storyteller
The Digital Storyteller connects Eden Village to the rest of the world during the summer and helps prepare for the upcoming recruitment season. Communicating with current camp parents, prospective families, partner organizations, and our social media audience, you will help craft and share the story of this summer. This position is ideal for someone who is outgoing, organized, people-oriented, specializes in capturing amazing photos and videos content, savvy with social media and technology, and has an eye for visual design.
Dates: June 6- Aug. 4, 2022
Time Off: All staff receive one 24-hour day off per week, and around 1 hours off every day.
Base Salary: $2,200 (more DOE) + Room & Board
Position Requirements:
Live on site at Eden Village West for the 8 week summer season

Bunk Counselor (Male Identifying)
Counselors care for, supervise, and live with a group of campers and are their primary caretakers. As facilitators of campers’ experience, counselors strive to raise self esteem, empower children to take on challenges and leadership opportunities, and foster the bunk group dynamic by actively participating in all camp activities offered by specialists. Excellent communication skills, group leading, childcare experience and love of nature are essential.
Dates: June 12- Aug. 4, 2022

Base Salary: $2,400 (more DOE) + Room & Board
Position Requirements:
Counselors must be at least 18 years old, and are expected to attend staff training, stay at camp the entire season, and oversee a bunk of campers for 6 weeks of the summer

Camp Nurse
Camp Nurse position available at an organic farm-to-table sleepaway camp! Our Camp Nurses are the primary care providers on-site and our Medical Director is available 24/7 for consultation and visits camp as needed.
Part time- $1250 / week + Room & Board (min 3 weeks)
Full time- $10,625 (8.5 weeks) + Room & Board
Responsibilities
Camp Nurses are responsible for:
Setting up our health center at the beginning of summer season
Reviewing camper medical records before campers arrive
Medication administration
Implementing camp first aid protocols
Staffing daily open clinic hours - assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for campers and staff
Computer-based MAR documentation
On call overnight responsibilities
Acting as liaison between the camp doctor, camp administrators, camp counselors and parents concerning diagnoses, prescriptions and treatments
Educating parents and camp staff about children’s health issues
Leading breakdown of the health center once camp is over
Requirements
Live in residence at camp in Healdsburg, California during staff training, summer camp, and post camp wrap-up (June 9th - August 4th). 3-week contracts are also available.
Position requires a valid LVN, RN, or NP license in the state of California
Current CPR and First Aid training
Have a valid driver’s license

Culinary Arts Specialist
Bring your food values deliciously to life as the Culinary Arts Specialist at Eden Village West! You’ll work with the abundance of our farm and orchard to teach farm-to-table cooking skills and inspire young people to have autonomy over what they eat and where their food comes from. Get creative with fresh goat milk from our goats, eggs from our chickens and an abundance of farm fresh veggies, inspiring deep gratitude for the land and communities that feed us. Guide campers in learning everything from knife skills and kitchen safety to how to make fresh pasta, pickles, bread, ice cream, fermented foods, canned goodies and so much more!
Dates: June 7 - August 4, 2022
Time Off: All staff receive one 24-hour day off per week, and at least 1 hour off every day.
Salary: $3,000 base salary, additional compensation DOE + Room and Board
Position Requirements:
Prior experience as an educator
Basic knowledge of farm to table cooking including but not limited to: knife safety skills, basic cooking techniques, fermentation, pickling,, vegan and gluten free baking, incorporating seasonal produce, and reducing food waste.
Must love being organized and ready to caretake a space used by 100+ community members.
Work well on a team and be open to direction from your supervisor.
Specialists must be at least 18 years old and are expected to live on site at Eden Village Camp for the summer season and attend staff training

Head Chef
The Head Chef is responsible for managing all kitchen operations and staff at Eden Village West. Our ideal candidate has absolute passion for cooking, is detail oriented, and can manage multiple projects in a kitchen. Able to maintain a Kosher, Vegetarian Kitchen without exception. Familiar and comfortable with cooking vegan, gluten-free, dairy free, and allergen friendly cuisine alternatives at each meal. Schedule and Supervise a kitchen team to prepare and organize three organic and locally grown meals, made from scratch, each day. Be prepared to cultivate a long-term relationship with camp, and guide our (amazing) camp food’s direction going forward. Requires 5+ years of experience in a kitchen.
Duration: 8.5 weeks
Base In Session Salary: $10,000 (DOE) + Room & Board
Base pre-camp wages: $30/hr (DOE)
Summer Prep Responsibilities:
Review meal and food feedback from the following summers
Develop a summer menu plan
Coordinate with the Farm Manager about how to incorporate farm produce into meals
Coordinate with the year-round team to plan kitchen staff training
Interview kitchen staff and give recommendations on hiring
Advise on kitchen supply procurement in advance of camp
Give input about kitchen management structure and practices
Other responsibilities as appointed
During the summer, the Head Chef is responsible for the following:
Manage the kitchen budget maximizing purchasing power, minimizing food waste (portion control)
Oversee safety and sanitation in the kitchen and make sure all staff are properly trained and aware of safety risks
Order and procure all food and kitchen supplies
Directly supervise the Assistant Head Chef, Dining Hall Manager, Head Baker, and Mashgiach (Kosher Supervisor)
Generally supervise food and meal production
Create kitchen work schedules, review time-sheets for hourly workers, & ensure proper staffing for prep and meal times
Run daily/weekly kitchen team meetings
Expectations:
Current Food Handlers Manager License or willingness to obtain prior to the start of camp
Knowledge of or willingness to learn and implement keeping a Kosher Vegetarian Kitchen without exception

5+ years cooking experience emphasis on high quality volume food production
2+ years Food Service managerial experience

Herbalism Specialist
Join Eden Village West’s herbalism educator team this summer and empower campers to draw on the ancient wisdom of plant medicine! Our herbalism program aims to deepen our spiritual, communal, and land connection by tapping into the abundance of the earth and the natural medicines growing all around us. Share your knowledge and passion for herbs by guiding campers in making teas, tinctures, salves, deodorants, incense, soaps, infused oils, flower essences, masks, scrubs, and so much more.

Intermediate- Advanced knowledge of herbal medicine including a variety of herbs and their medicinal properties, how to make teas, tinctures, salves, etc.

The lead cook is responsible for executing meal prep and service as directed by the Head and Assistant Chefs. Typical Duties and Responsibilities :
Understand and comply with all applicable health codes and regulations, food temp logs, safe equipment operation procedures, portion control, food quality standards, etc.
Maintains work areas, kitchen equipment and food handling procedures to ensure compliance with all safety and health codes. Produce all recipes with strict adherence to HACCP, health codes, safety guidelines and productivity standards. Understands and complies with County/State/Federal health codes to ensure health and safety of the campers and staff
Help Assistant Chef with daily prep and training of new employees. Coordinates production of hot foods, salad bar, pantry, snacks, etc. Monitors work of cooks and others to ensure production, performance, procedures and finished products meet quality and sanitation standards. Monitors food rotation and inventory levels to maintain wholesome and nutritious products. Labels food in compliance with storage guidelines. May include transferring of supplies between campuses.
Assists Food Service Supervisor with recipe development and modification, menu planning and determining best use of foods considering weather/seasonal availability, campus activities, and other events for maximum efficiency and cost control.
Provides input to supervisor regarding performance reviews for members of kitchen staff.
Provides backup for the Dining Hall Manager in their absence.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Demonstrate excellent knife skills and product identification, all while keeping in mind a sense of urgency and time restrictions.

Step into leadership and responsibility as you learn and uphold pool and river safety. This position will require current certifications or a strong swimming background and ability to get certified. Lifeguards at Eden Village West care for campers, are educators, and safety minded professionals.

Office Manager
Eden Village West is hiring an Office Manager. This is a dynamic position that is a key member of the Eden Village West team and is responsible for running many important parts of camp. The Office Manager is the face of camp during the summer, manages the summer office, parent communication, camper travel, check-in and check-out days, and more.
Position Responsibilities:
Maintaining an active and warm correspondence with parents and camper families
Soliciting, collecting, and organizing all camper and staff forms
Prepare camper and session reports; Provide program staff with enrollment information
Organizing the summer office, daily sorting and distribution of mail to campers and staff, coordinating incoming deliveries, and sending out mailings
Staffing reception assuring all persons coming into the office are greeted in a welcoming, professional, and courteous manner
Making positive impressions as the first person whom parents and donors see and speak with when they come to Eden Village West
Ensuring the phone system is current and functional
Managing lost and found
Assisting with camp communications

Songleader
Eden Village’s Song Leaders are the backbone of our camp culture. From morning meditative song circles to exuberant Friday night oneg and every after-meal blessing and song session, you’ll be bringing our community together through music. At Eden Village, we don’t listen to any recorded music- we make it all ourselves! You’ll spend your days teaching campers new instruments, how to write songs, form bands, and perform for each other. You’ll make every day at camp a dance party!

Tribe Leader
Tribe Leaders (unit heads) are a central part of the leadership team at Eden Village West. They supervise and support a team of counselors working with campers in a specific age group to create a magical camp experience for all of our campers. Tribe leaders support counselors in working with campers, creating innovative bunk programming, and working with their co-counselors.

Position Requirements:
Tribe Leaders must be at least 18 years old, and are expected to stay at camp the entire season, attend staff training and live on site at Eden Village West for the 8 week summer season
Prior experience as a supervisor, or clearly ready to step into a leadership/supervisory role with counselors who may be their peers outside of camp
Able and willing to accept supervision and guidance.
Able to put the needs of the campers and staff before the needs of self.
Able to manage their own time, schedule, and tasks with flexible and willingness to go with the flow
Responsibilities & Expectations:
Support & facilitate counselor training, both during staff training and throughout the summer and provide ongoing supervision, feedback, and daily support.
Manage camper issues that arise within the tribe. Work with the camper care team and counselor to support struggling campers. Communicate with campers and staff through Non Violent Communication techniques.
Lead meals, facilitate golden broom selection, and support with other all camp moments. Provide assistance and coverage during key times during the day. Sometimes this will be scheduled, other times will be as needed. Times may include: Menucha / Rest Hour, Schmooze / Free Time, Shower Time, Health Center during evening medications, Bedtime Rituals, etc.
Design and run Tribe Nights (evening programs for the entire age group), Support the program team in all camp programs and to produce tribe specific weekly & daily schedules, and schedule counselor days & hours off .
Liaison between different departments of camp. Communicate between campers, counselors, the office, directors, health center, camper care, and specialists.
Respect and support a pluralistic Jewish community.
Responsible for adhering to all camp rules and policies.
Excited about being a role model 24/7 and being eyes and ears for all that’s happening around camp.
Aquatics Director
Spend your summer in the sun! The Aquatics Manager is responsible for water safety during the camp at the pool and at the River. Step into leadership and responsibility as you deepen your skills as an educator and group leader by supervising, training, and empowering a team of around 7 lifeguards to hold the safety of all waterfronts and lead a variety of water based programs for campers of all ages every day. The position will require current certifications (or ability to get certified) and a strong swimming background. Staff at Eden Village West care for campers, are educators and safety minded professionals. This is a summer position that could be part-time or full time, either in residence at camp in Healdsburg or commuting.

Setting up a waterfront check in / out system
Running meetings with aquatics staff
Other waterfront duties as needed

We have a secret staff lounge that is stocked with awesome staff snacks, and a not-so-secret not-so-little FARM full of fresh off the vine snacks! We’re munching on cherry tomatoes, squash, strawberries, cucumbers, and so much more all summer long.

We have staff fun activities that take place 2-3 times a week, facilitated by your fellow staff members!

Additional Information About Eden Village West
Eden Village West is an organic farm-to-table Jewish sleepaway camp located on 350 acres along the Russian River in Sonoma County, California. We offer a 6-week overnight summer program for rising 2nd-11th graders as well as other farm programming throughout the spring and fall. Our campers have the time of their lives while exploring a vibrant food culture and deepening their appreciation for the natural systems that sustain us. The Eden Village West experience includes organic farming, culinary arts, outdoor adventure, wilderness skills, herbalism, DIY projects, art, music, and more. Campers emerge from these immersive experiences empowered to promote a more environmentally sustainable, socially just and spiritually connected world. Rooted in a culture of radical kindness, each camper develops leadership skills, explores new passions, and awakens their sense of purpose and joy. Eden Village West welcomed 87 campers in our inaugural summer in 2018 and grew to 230 campers in Summer 2021.

Referral bonus is eligible to returning & first time staff who are working at camp in Summer 2022 and former staff who aren’t planning to join us this summer
When new staff complete their staff application, they must put your name in the field “How did you hear about camp?”. Each new staff member may only list one referring staff member.
New staff must be hired and complete a full summer of employment at Eden Village West. If they leave early, the referral bonus is no longer applicable.
Returning & first time staff: $200 for the first new staff referred, $100 for each additional staff member
Former summer staff: $100 for the first new staff referred, $50 for each additional staff member
Bonus paid out at the end of the summer
