Activity Instructor/Cabin Counselor
Our activity leaders instruct in their discipline each day on our 200+ acre campus, working with beginners through advanced students. Additionally, instructors will lead 1-2 off-site excursions per week in their field. These instructors live in a cabin with 1-2 other instructors and 12 campers. These folks are excited about helping campers develop a passion for their activity and also helping the campers in their cabin grow spiritually in conjunction with our Christian dynamic.
Our applications are rolling and positions are filled on a first come first serve basis. After completing your application, you will have a 45 minute Zoom interview with one of our directors.
Starting Salary: $2,400 with bonuses available. All room and board is covered.
Season: May 27-August 12
Activities include:
Rock Climbing- assistant instructors are still leaning the basics of the sport but are excited to grow. Below certified and know basic knots and safety. Activity leaders have experience with sport and trad climbing and have experience lead climbing and setting up a climb site. CPR/First Aid required, WFA/WFR preferred.
Mountain Biking- Mountain biking instructors ride frequently and ride hard. They are expected to bring their own bike and gear. PMBI level one preferred but not required. CPR/First Aid required.
Canoeing- Instructors are comfortable paddling in solo and tandem canoes. Lifeguard certification required.
Kayaking- Instructors are comfortable paddling class IV water, and have a strong on side and off side roll. Swiftwater rescue preferred. Lifeguard certification required.
Fly Fishing (boys)- We fish the best rivers in Western Carolina and our instructors are expected to be able to assist beginners to lifelong fishers on the river. First Aid/CPR required. WFA/WFR preferred.
Backpacking- Instructors will lead everything from day hikes to overnights to week long expeditions. map and compass, site selection, and leave no trace ethics are a few of the expectations for staff members. WFR preferred /WFA required.

Camps Timberlake and Merri-Mac are traditional christian boys and girls summer camps located in the mountains of western North Carolina. Our mission is for our campers to grow through friendship and adventure.
