We are looking for the BEST of the best staff to work at one of the most fulfilling and admired camps in North America. Cabin counselors have the opportunity to care for and work with children and help inspire campers to become exceptional people. Marimeta counselors will live in cabins with campers, as well as teach activities during the day. Counselors take part in the evening program with the campers – this is where some of the best lessons in leadership, resilience, teamwork and confidence are made! Being a camp counselor is hard work and is extremely demanding, and it is bound to be the job you talk about most throughout your life because overcoming those demands and working that hard for these kids is extremely rewarding; just ask any of our staff. General Responsibilities
Attend staff training and orientation program as well as weekly staff meetings.
Care for 10-15 campers as a counselor in a cabin along with 2-3 co-counselors.
Instruct campers during activity periods.
Pitch in on activity set up, evening programs, and other special events.
This is a round-the-clock job for 9 weeks. Because you are in a cabin with the campers, you are the one who will wake up in the middle of the night if they need something. Campers don’t know what time off is for caregivers (until you are on time off and out of camp or in the staff lounge).
This job requires stamina; both physically and emotionally.
Specific Responsibilities
Interaction with Children
Get to know every camper well and respond to them as an individual
Work to assure a quality camp experience for every camper
Develop an appropriate counselor/camper relationship with every camper
Be a quality role model for children
Be able to encourage, support and set limits for children
Be aware and effectively address the group and social dynamics of campers
Basic Care
Be safety conscious at all times
Make sure that every camper's basic needs are met
Be aware of the campers’ physical and emotional health
Maintain general cabin cleanliness
Teach children to develop good self-care and independent living skills
Program
Help facilitate quality daily activities throughout each session
With co-counselors, create and facilitate age appropriate cabin activities
Enthusiastically participate in all camp programs including: special events, color wars, general activity, etc.
Administrative Duties
Complete all required paperwork (e.g. parent letters, weekly self and cabin evaluations) on time ● Abide by the time off/cabin on-duty schedule. One staff member from each cabin is required to be present in the cabin all times campers are present (you will use a rotating schedule with co-counselors)
Help ensure each camper writes home on a regular basis
Staff Professionalism
Embody camp values; doing the right things for the right reasons.
Prepare for, accept, and deliver feedback and constructively problem solve during supervisory conversations and co-counseling meetings
Set a good example for campers and others including: cleanliness/hygiene, punctuality, sharing clean-up and chores, being a good teammate.
Follow camp staff rules related to smoking, use of alcoholic beverages and drugs ● Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities
Maintain a proactive, confident and positive attitude
Ask for help from appropriate staff when needed
Counselor skills we need and provide training for:
Lifeguards
Swim instructors
Ski boat drivers
Sailing Instructors
Qualifications:
Tennis teachers
Arts and crafts specialists
Climbing + high ropes course instructors
Desire and ability to work with children and staff outdoors, in a remote, rustic setting.
Must relate well to children ages 7-15, co-counselors, supervisors.
Ability to independently problem solve; having the attitude of “let me try to fix this first” is what we are looking for
Ability and willingness to assist in teaching an activity
Possess good character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, self-control, and responsibility
Ability to communicate and work with groups participating at camp (generally age 7 – 15 years for campers and 17 years and older for staff) of all skill levels, and provide necessary instruction to campers.
Ability to accept supervision and guidance
Be physically able to accompany the campers to any of the camp activities
Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity, as well as physical symptoms of camper injury or illness, and camper concerns.
Cognitive and communication abilities to plan and conduct activities to achieve camper development objectives.
Dates:
Our sessions are four weeks or eight weeks long. We have between 160 and 180 campers each session. ● Staff dates are June 11 - August 10, 2023
June 11 - 19 Staff Orientation and Training
June 19 - August 9 Eight weeks
June 10 - July 14 First session
July 14 - 16 Visiting Weekend
July 16 - August 9 Second session
Salary:
Salary for the summer begins at $2,350 and is dependent on age and experience. In addition, you will be provided housing, food, and in-camp medical attention, internet and the use of camp facilities and equipment (when not being used for activities/programming).

The Role In A Nutshell
We’re looking for a Summer Maintenance Worker to help camp run smoothly behind the scenes. There are daily tasks that include making repairs around camp, taking out trash, groundskeeping, etc...and also other tasks that will pop up whenever something goes awry. This role starts June 1 and runs through August 31 at our summer camp in Eagle River, Wisconsin.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years of age
Holds a valid drivers license.
Good work ethic.
In excellent health and good physical condition to meet the physical demands of the job including construction, upkeep of the grounds, etc.
Prior experience with tools (including power tools) and outdoor work.
Reliable
High-quality work product
Responsible to: Facilities Director
A Typical Day on the maintenance crew (not that there’s a typical day at camp…) ➔ Wake up and grab breakfast with the team. Check in with the Facilities Director to get assignments for the day
➔ Hop in the golf cart and do a quick trip around camp to empty the garbage cans. ➔ Head to the waterfront to fill the boats with gas before they are used for the day. Take in the beautiful view of Meta Lake.
➔ Get started on daily assignment.
➔ It’s time for lunch! Grab a quesadilla and some chips & salsa and hang out with the staff. ➔ After lunch, it’s time for some fun in the sun...grab the weed wacker and make your way over to the tennis courts to keep them looking great.
➔ Uh oh, the Facilities Director finds you and lets you know that a window to Cabin 7 was broken. Head over to the cabin to pull out the screen to get replaced.
➔ You’re done with the weed wacking, so you check back on the “to do” list today. ➔ Before you know it, it’s dinner time and the work day is over! Feel free to join in on camp activities during Evening Program, or head out for the day -- your choice!
