Trip Leaders

Agawam Trip leaders are extremely confident and competent working outdoors, and have significant experience with wilderness expeditions.  Most importantly, however, the candidate must be motivated to share his or her deep passion of the outdoors with children.  A superb candidate will have completed an outdoor leadership course with an organization such as NOLS, Outward Bound, or a similar program.  The Agawam trip program ranges from overnight canoe trips that depart from our waterfront on Crescent lake, to week-long expeditions to Mt. Washington, Mt. Kathadin, and the Rangeley Lakes.  The right candidate will be able to bring the same level of enthusiasm for each of these experiences through expeditionary behavior and leadership.  The goal of the Agawam trip program is to spark a lifelong passion for the outdoors and to utilize nature as a classroom for personal growth.

About the Trip Leader Position:

Counselors return from a summer at Agawam with new-found confidence and skills for the 21st century workplace.

While serving our youth, they develop critical thinking/problem solving skills, including face-to-face communication and conflict resolution experience in a highly social environment.

Counselors grow personal responsibility and work ethic in the context of a team setting.

Counselors learn and practice in a safe, but challenging, and highly supportive atmosphere.

The ideal candidate is age 21+ and possesses a valid drivers’ license, a clean driving record, and a willingness to drive a 15-passenger van.  However, the right leader between the ages of 18 and 20 will be considered, also.  A candidate who comes with certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR, and Wilderness First Aid is preferred, but Agawam will provide these certifications, and other trainings for leaders with the right temperament and skills. Employment dates are June 7th-August 12th. Position includes room, board, uniform, and laundry, competitive salary commensurate with experience.  We welcome applications across all backgrounds and genders.

Additional Information About Camp Agawam

For the last 100 years, Camp Agawam has provided life-changing summers for boys.  This classic, residential New England camp’s foundational principles ensure that young people – both campers and counselors – strive to be their best selves in an intentional, supporting, and challenging environment.  We are a tight-knit, but welcoming community.  Agawam is 100% tech-free.  Our facilities are well maintained, but rustic by design.  We find that this environment allows us to focus on genuine, deep, and meaningful relationships.  We serve around 130 8-15 year olds in our seven-week flagship program and a one-week camp for Maine boys who couldn’t otherwise afford an Agawam experience.

We are seeking cabin and activity counselors with expertise in a variety of areas ranging from Sailing, Tennis, Music, Swimming, Outdoor Living Skills, Climbing, Archery, and more.  To learn more, visit www.campagawam.org or email cruiser@campagawam.org
