Avid4 Adventure
Hiring:
Summer Overnight Camp Backpacking Specialist
Job Description
Our Backpacking Specialists are one of the many beating hearts of Avid4 Adventure’s overnight programming. At Windy Peak Overnight Camp, our backpacking trips take campers on multi-day adventures where they build confidence, develop teamwork skills, and connect deeply with the outdoors. From one-night overnight experiences to five-day backpacking expeditions, our specialists create a positive environment for learning and growth. Backpacking Specialists co-lead a group of campers each session, teaching outdoor skills, Leave No Trace principles, and the importance of resilience in the backcountry. They serve as role models, guiding campers with enthusiasm, ensuring safety, and providing support throughout their experience. Specialists are representatives of Avid to both campers and parents and live our core values in everything we do. Programs begin between May and June, location depending, and run through mid-August.
Qualifications
Must be at least 20 years of age by the start of training. While at least 1+ years of experience leading multi-day backpacking or camping trips in a professional or volunteer setting is preferred, candidates with extensive personal experience in the backcountry are still highly encouraged to apply. A CPR and Wilderness First Responder (WFR, EMT, or W-EMT) certification is required by the start of training, but we’ll point you in the right direction to get certified before training begins. A valid driver’s license is required, and all staff will go through a 2-day 15-passenger van driving training during their first week of employment.
