Lower Colorado River Invasive Aquatic Animal Outreach Intern
August 12, 2024 – December 13, 2024 (anticipated dates)
$600 per week living stipend + Education Award
The Lower Colorado River National Wildlife Refuges provide critical habitat for federally listed species, such as the federally endangered Yuma Ridgway’s rail (Rallus obsoletus yumanensis), razorback sucker (Xyrauchen texanus), and bonytail chub (Gila elegans). The refuges also provide access to the Lower Colorado River and offer robust outdoor opportunities for fishing, hunting, birding, biking, hiking, boating, and wildlife viewing. The Invasive Aquatic Animal Outreach Intern will develop and implement a public outreach plan that includes species ecology summaries and reporting information, identification of target audiences, time of year to start publicizing materials, and what types of materials (presentations, social media, signs, pamphlets) are needed and where they will be distributed or occur. The intern will interact with local anglers, outdoor recreational organizations, the general public, federal and state collaborators, and law enforcement to develop the outreach materials and program.

The interns will be contributing to the education of the general public and helping to advance the NPS Interpretation Division’s goals by creating new ways of amplifying and celebrating Indigenous voices at Grand Canyon National Park
