Housing Coordinator


 

The Housing Coordinator sets the tone for each and every employee that checks into housing. You provide a pleasant and comfortable experience for employees, ensuring that they have a seamless home-away-from-home experience.

  • Coordinates the room assignments and serves as the primary point of contact for employees in housing

  • Maintains accurate record keeping and ensures payment, deposits are accounted for with payroll

  • Identifies new housing opportunities, manages leases and acts as primary liaison with landlords

  • Manages check in/out of all employees in housing and coordinates with management of arrival/end dates 

  • Ensure housing is ready for occupancy and prepare rooms as required. 

  • Performs routine inspections to ensure the cleanliness and safety of rooms

  • Ensures housing has sufficient resources and supplies as needed.

  • Coordinates employee activities and events.

  • Drives employees to offsite events, and appointments as needed

  • Resolves housing concerns with employees and managers

  • Supports remote locations with their housing needs

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Previous HR/Housing experience with preference in seasonal work environments

  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and have a Valid Drivers License.

  • Minimum age of 18 years is required to reside in company housing, where available.

Physical Environment:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Occasional employee events that require leading groups on varying levels activity/exertion. of Must have the ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials.

 

Tour Boat Captain (Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka)


 

Requires a USCG master's license (Sitka and Ketchikan – 50 ton minimum; Juneau - 100 ton minimum) and an FCC marine radio operator's permit. Prior experience in the marine tourism industry and particularly on passenger vessels is desirable. Preference is given to applicants with knowledge of diesel mechanics, waterjet propulsion, and electrical systems. Must be able to build team and maintain crew moral to provide a quality experience for our guests.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct tours as directed according to descriptions in sales literature and procedures in policy manual. Supervise all aspects of tour delivery and tour quality.

  • Manage and direct crew members in the execution of all their job responsibilities; build a productive and efficient team; maintain high morale over course of season.

  • Supervise and assist in daily maintenance: cleaning, sewage and fuel pumping, restocking. Coordinate and assist with routine maintenance; painting, changing oil, etc.

  • Communicate with Port Engineer to identify problems and expedite repairs; assist with repairs, as needed.

  • Supervise passenger boarding, safety orientation/demonstration, emergency response and crowd control.

  • Plan and execute emergency drills, equipment checks and safety meetings in accordance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations and AMT policy.

  • Maintain all navigational equipment in good working order; keep logs and ship/company documents, as directed. Provide daily operations report to office.


Qualifications / Experience:

  • Experience on passenger vessels and/or experience operating vessels in Southeast Alaska required. Required minimum 100-ton license.

  • Mechanical aptitude, engine room experience preferred. Diesel mechanics or electrical/electronic background helpful.

  • Must have ability to build effective team and skills required to resolve crew conflicts to provide quality experience for customers.

  • Must have ability to speak on P.A. system, and to provide commentary.

  • Must be able to lift and move objects of up to 50 lbs. as required.

  • Must be drug free (pre-employment screening and enrollment in random drug testing program is Coast Guard required).

  • Must be able to work varied shift hours, including weekends and holidays.

  • Must be clean, well groomed, courteous, honest, and most important, reliable.

 

Deckhand (Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka, Yakutat, Glacier Bay)


 

Requires basic seamanship skills. Mechanical aptitude and some experience with diesel engines preferred. Assist Captain to monitor vessel systems and troubleshoot problems. Interact with passengers and perform customer service duties. Provide for passenger safety while underway and always maintain impeccably clean vessel. Must be able to work as a team member and be comfortable interacting with guests.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Check all engine/jet fluids upon arriving on vessel each morning, bring all equipment online, log all entries and report any problems to Captain.

  • Assist with passenger boarding, safety orientation/demonstration, emergency response and crowd control.

  • Complete routine engine room checks underway, making minor mechanical repairs and adjustments as necessary, and assisting crew members to ensure that passengers receive optimum tour quality and premium customer service.

  • Assist Captain in wheelhouse with navigating and/or wildlife sighting as directed.

  • Maintain vessel appearance, with regards to cleanliness and safety, in engine and jet rooms, in voids and on decks. Assist other crew with cabin, galley, and heads.

  • Under direction of Captain, complete all routine vessel maintenance daily. This will include, but not be limited to: cleaning, sanitation pumping, restocking and refueling.

  • Assist Captain to perform required safety checks of all essential equipment on a weekly basis. Maintain current and accurate logs.

  • Work with Captain to complete all mandatory vessel maintenance monthly, including but not limited to oil/filter changes, zinc/belt replacement, etc.

  • Identify problems, inform Captain, and assist in performing needed repairs.

  • Perform other duties under supervision of Captain.


Qualifications / Experience:

  • Prefer experience on passenger carrying vessels.

  • Mechanical aptitude, engine room experience preferred. Diesel
    mechanics or electrical/electronics background helpful.

  • Must be able to work as a team with other crew to provide quality experience for customers, including answering questions and providing commentary.

  • Must be able to lift and move objects of up to 50 lbs. as required.

  • Must be drug free (pre-employment screening and enrollment
    in random drug testing program is Coast Guard required).

  • Must be able to work varied shift hours, including weekends and holidays. Days off will be scheduled but must be willing to be flexible in meeting tour demand.

  • Must be clean, well groomed, courteous, honest, and most important, reliable.

  • Uniform jackets and hats are provided.

 

Naturalist (Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka, and Yakutat)


 

Requires public speaking ability and experience using PA systems. Develop tour narrative and conduct natural history presentations for groups of up to 150 passengers. Assist passengers boarding & disembarking; provide safety and emergency orientation; and work as a team member to distribute snacks and always maintain impeccably clean vessel. Biology and natural history background helpful.

 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Develop tour narrative plan with duty captain for each voyage, factoring time constraints, weather, recent sightings, tide, season, etc.

  • Direct passengers boarding and disembarking, and during an emergency. Conduct safety and emergency orientation.

  • Work with Guest Services crew members to provide commentary and personal interaction/service with up to 150 passengers on tour.

  • Assist Guest Services crew members in the galley as needed. Including, but not limited to, distribution of snacks and food items as well as beverages. Employees 21+ are required to obtain TAPS certification to serve alcohol. 

  • Vessel duties include line handing, assist with docking / undocking of the vessel and mooring with cruise ships as requested by vessel captain. 

  • Assist other crew in maintaining vessel appearance, cleanliness, sanitation, and safety.

  • Perform other duties under supervision of Captain.

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Prior experience working on passenger carrying vessels preferred. 

  • Certifications required prior to first day of employment include CPR / FA certification, and Alaska Food Handlers card. Employees 21+ must obtain TAPS certification to serve alcohol. 

  • Public speaking experience very helpful. Must be able to effectively
    communicate with up to 150 passengers on a P.A. system.

  • Biology and/or natural resource background helpful. Must be able to learn and retain pertinent background material provided on board, for presentation to passengers.

  • Must be able to work as a team with other crew to present coordinated narration and a quality experience for customers.

  • Must be able to lift and move objects of up to 50 lbs. as required.

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. 

  • Must be drug free (pre-employment screening and enrollment in random drug testing program is Coast Guard required).

  • Must be able to work varied shift hours, including weekends and holidays. Days off will be scheduled but must be willing to be flexible in meeting tour demand.


 

Guest Services (Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka, Yakutat, and Glacier Bay)


 

Interact with passengers by answering questions and helping with specific requests. Operate galley and gift shop which includes food preparation, snack service, retail presentations and the sale of local retail products. Always maintain an impeccably clean vessel. Must be able to work as a team member and be comfortable interacting with guests.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Present a professional and friendly attitude while on duty.

  • Direct and assist passenger movement on and about the vessel.

  • Participate in passenger safety orientation and maintain safe conditions underway.

  • Help operate galley, bar, and commissary, including preparation & distribution of snacks, sales, stocking, inventory order lists and related paperwork.

  • Routine maintenance including, but not limited to cleaning, sanitation, restocking consumables in cabin area and heads, making note of needed equipment repairs.

  • Enhance the cruise experience for passengers, including answering questions and helping passengers with specific problems/requests.

  • Other duties, as needed.

Qualifications & Responsibilities: 

  • Previous retail experience preferred.

  • Previous experience on passenger carrying vessels preferred

  • Must be able to make changes, keep records and maintain a professional, friendly attitude toward customers.

Orca Point Lodge Manager


 

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, this position is responsible for the entire scope of operations at our private lodge on Colt Island. This day lodge is a tour venue that serves a salmon buffet to guests arriving aboard our whale-watch tour vessels and a seafood buffet to guests arriving via our overnight cruise vessels. Duties will be performed under company guidelines and according to established procedures and protocols.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversee training, scheduling and supervision of entire staff including kitchen/bar and gift shop crew; leads for site, grounds, and touch tank.

  • Monitor quality and efficiency of tour operation and review crew performance on weekly basis, report audits to corporate.

  • Conduct daily pre-service and post service meetings with crew; maintain morale and execute company programs of progressive discipline and problem resolution.

  • Advise and monitor boat crews when arrive with guests to delegate specific duties while on site at lodge.

  • Order and manage all provisions and inventory for lodge; arrange for daily transport along with lodge crew from Auke Bay facility to Colt Island location by vessel.

  • Conduct regular inventory of all storage areas both on/off site to ensure adequate supplies of perishable and non-perishable foods; keep areas clean and orderly.

  • Oversee maintenance of all on site equipment including but not limited to propane refrigerators, stoves, grills etc.; along with docks and grounds.

  • Keep all permits and certificates current.

  • Work closely with Retail Manager to organize space and merchandise all locally made products in lodge gift shop.

  • Prioritize, identify, and coordinate projects to be completed during the winter months. Prepare work orders and provide updates/reports to corporate.

  • Aid crew to enhance guest experience including performing excellent service recovery when necessary.

  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Minimum two years’ management experience in restaurant, tourism or hospitality industry

  • Maintain current TAPS, Alaska Food Handlers and CPR/FA certifications.

  • Must be drug free (pre-employment screening and enrollment in random drug testing program is company policy).

  • Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to work varied and long hours including weekends/holidays; be flexible in meeting tour times and tour demands.

  • Must be honest, courteous, and reliable and maintain clean, well-groomed appearance.

 

Supply and Retail Coordinator (Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka)


 

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, this position is responsible to provision a fleet of vessels engaged in conducting tours for cruise ship passengers. This job contributes to the success of Allen Marine Tours by ensuring that all crews have the necessary supplies and merchandise to enable them to conduct the highest quality of excursion for our guests.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manage tour and retail inventory may include purchasing, receiving, stocking, and distributing all vessel supplies. Products to include cleaning and paper supplies; food and beverage inventory; and retail items.

  • Work closely with purchasing office in Sitka, to price and procure all products.

  • Balance, reconcile and report all daily retail receipts from each vessel and/or crew.

  • Track use of all tour supplies, keep accurate records, and prepare periodic reports to generate a final report at the end of the season.

  • Coordinate and manage the cleaning of all vessel laundry (cloth towels, window diapers and rags).

  • Develop procedural systems for efficient distribution of all products to various vessels in fleet.

  • Assist in training with all Passenger Service crew members in the use of supplies and the submission of paperwork and monitor performance throughout season.

  • Maintain clean and orderly on site and remote storage areas.

  • Act in a professional and pleasant manner in executing responsibilities as a liaison with crewmembers and local purveyors.

  • Coordinate with Sales & Service Manager and Charter Coordinator to satisfy needs for special charters and events.

  • Report to Operations Manager on a regular basis and in a timely manner to solve problems and expedite solutions.

  • Supervise a team of four – six. 

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Must have previous experience with inventory control, including ordering, tracking, and stocking of supplies and merchandise. 

  • Prefer previous experience in transportation or tourism industry.

  • Must be proficient in the use of a variety of computer programs, including Word and Excel. 

  • Must be honest and capable of handling and balancing cash/check/cc receivables on daily basis.

  • Must possess exceptional communication and organization skills; and have the ability to multi-task and remain flexible in a demanding and fast-paced environment.

  • Must have the ability to work independently, while operating effectively as part of a team.

  • Must be drug-free (Coast Guard pre-employment and random drug test required).

  • Must be able to lift and move objects of up to 50 pounds, or as required.

  • Must be able to work varied shift hours, including weekends and holidays; and in assorted locations, either dock, storage facility, vessels and/or main office. 

  • Must be well-groomed, courteous, reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.

  • Requires a valid driver’s license and good driving record

Room and Board

Availability of Employee Housing with Allen Marine Tours may vary by port and by season and is extremely limited.  Therefore, we encourage all of our employee to secure your own housing.  For any non-local employees that secure their own housing, we will pay you $500 on your first check!  It is best to start looking for housing at your earliest opportunity and we are happy to point you in the direction of listings and opportunities! If Employee Housing is available, the charge is a flat daily rate, deducted out of each bi-weekly paycheck, with a refundable Security Deposit due upon moving in.
