Adventure Recovery Guide, Part-Time
We are seeking a seasoned outdoors enthusiast who is comfortable working in a variety of weather conditions, with varied populations, including those in mental health and substance use care. The ideal candidate will be comfortable co-facilitating backpacking, camping, climbing, rappelling, canoeing, whitewater rafting, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, river and ocean surfing, caving, orienteering, ancestral skills, and open to learning within these areas of outdoor skills and professionalizing as needed. AR Guides provide leadership, logistical, and field facilitation to Adventure Recovery programs. They are responsible for day-to-day activities, ensuring all are conducted in a safe and efficient manner. AR Guides coordinate with the Field Manager/s + Field Director as needed to ensure that protocol and direction of programmatic missions are met and work with fellow team members to implement desired outcomes. In addition, they support the ongoing reflection of field activities, reporting on necessary and or immediate situational needs. AR Guides stay current on all necessary qualifications and certifications and the evolutionary nature of adventure, wilderness, prevention, and recovery fields.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Demonstrates good judgment and decision making skills, especially with potentially challenging clients or in potentially higher-risk environments or situations.
Monitors and ensures client safety and well-being, as instructed in line with protocols.
Demonstrates correct use of communication systems and client confidentiality.
Develops and demonstrates professional proficiency with outdoor skills and takes initiative to teach skills to clients.
Monitors clients to ensure follow through with rules and requirements, holds clients accountable, and ensures that all do quality work.
Maintains/establishes appropriate boundaries with fellow staff and is able to organize and motivate clients as a group, create group unity, and utilize peer dynamics.
Positive disposition, able to problem-solve in real time, and dedicated to generating memorable, intentional experiences for fellow staff and clients.
Abides by Adventure Recovery policies as outlined in the AR Guide manual and employee policies and procedures.
Properly documents observations/experiences of clients as required by individual contracts and specifications.
Facilitates group processing and debriefing in a skillful way, creating a hospitable and thoughtful space for all.
Supports and implements direction from Adventure Recovery Senior Leadership.
Communicates concerns and/or difficulties openly through appropriate channels in a timely manner.
Maintains a high standard of loyalty and support to staff and program and seeks to create a positive and supportive atmosphere, always.
Demonstrates alignment with the Adventure Recovery mission and philosophy.
Gives, receives, and utilizes feedback.
Maintains necessary individual and group facilitation equipment, including first aid kit and properly documents notable issues in FAK Log.
Schedule and Work Environment
Available for flexible work schedules, potentially meeting the needs of daily, weekly, monthly, and annual outside contracts.
Willing to travel as needed.
Qualifications
Desire to support and encourage other people as they progress.
Comfortable, adaptable, and enthusiastic promoting morals and values both by word, deed, and character.
Are at least 20 years of age.
Can pass a drug screen as well as a criminal background check.
Additional Qualifications
Current safety certifications (WAFA, WFR, CPR, River Rescue) preferred, and willingness to attain any certifications needed in the field.
Complete AR Guide Certification Training modules as relevant to field work (this can also be on-the-job training once the right candidates are hired).
Previous experience working with adolescents and/or young adults preferable.
