Hiring:
3 Season Outdoor Education Instructor
Our Spring and Fall seasons are focused on the development of leadership, team building, and environmental education. Our clients consist of corporate groups, high school, middle school, elementary school groups, and a variety of other organizations from around the world. These programs are often here for single-day Team Development Courses (TDC) and occasionally programs stay for multi-day overnights. We run these groups through our TDC which consists of 50+ ground-based challenge elements, high-ropes elements, and our Zip-line. Additional activities may include rock climbing, caving, orienteering, Environmental Education, Archery, Outdoor Living Skills, paddling out on the Bull Run River and much more.
Workdays are typically Monday through Friday with varied program hours. Occasional weekend work is available and sometimes required. Hours vary on each day depending on the needs of the program clients. There is occasional additional work including the development of Adventure Links programs, upkeep of our facilities, facility improvement projects, maintaining the grounds of the park, or anything else needed in operating the park.
Summer work consist of program work, as described above, and facilitating week-long outdoor adventure Day Camps, Residential Camps & Traveling Overnight expeditions for youth (8-14). Instructor teams facilitate a new adventure pursuit each day and lead groups of 14 participants as they explore a variety of outdoor recreation sites in Northern Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia. These activities include running our TDC Course, Kayaking/Canoeing, setting up and running top rope climbs, caving/spelunking, high-ropes, archery, Outdoor Living Skills, Orienteering, Sailing, evening activities, and so much more!
All the skills required are taught during our extensive training sessions and provide a great opportunity to be paid to play in the outdoors while providing instruction and opportunity for youth to make a million moments that matter.
Duration: 9 Months (Potential Winter opportunities and rehire for 2021)
Start Date: March 18th
End Date: November 20th
Qualifications:
Minimum 18 years old. Preferred 21 years old. College degree in related field preferred.
First aid and CPR Minimum within two weeks of hire, Adventure Links may assist in the acquisition of a CPR certification. WFA/WFR preferred by the second year of employment. Staff members with WFR certification are given preference on overnight and expedition programs.

Experience working with youth in a leadership role. Training and experience relating to outdoor leadership, experiential education or classroom teaching is preferred.
Flexible, good-humored and personable.
Invested in running quality Outdoor Education programs and developing skills as a facilitator and outdoor leader.
Strong work ethic, responsible and accountable.Preference is given to applicants who can work for the entire length of the employment period.
Essential Functions:
Work full and active days outside in the elements.
Supervision of campers, students and all other clientele.Ability to demonstrate and lead fun and educational activities.
Genuine desire to work with youth.Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Responsibilities:
Supervise participants and maintain emotionally and physically safe environments.
Implement and instruct outdoor activities and Adventure Links curriculum.
Manage daily program logistics.Maintain program facility and gear.
Communicate clearly and openly with Adventure Links administration.
Be able to work independently and take initiative.Practice and facilitate Leave No Trace ethic.
Summer Camp Instructor

Housing:
One of the major benefits of Adventure Links is the ability to freely live on-site, in a small dorm-like building on 400 acres of beautiful parkland, with a wonderful community of peers. Housing is either shared or single dormitory-style rooms. We are a pet-friendly facility as long as your pet is friendly. Along with this staff housing, we offer a community kitchen, bathroom with showers, laundry, movie room/lounge, and wireless internet. It is truly our little village on the hill out here; a home away from home for our staff who travel from all over the world to work here.
