Firefighter


 

We’re hiring a Firefighter to Live. Work. Explore. at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon!

Job Summary
Our Firefighters are to provide firefighting services and First Responder services for Xanterra South Rim.

The Details:
Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round
Pay: $18.90 per hour
Housing: A private room in a shared apartment, $267/month, payroll-deducted
Schedule: Typically a strraight 40-hour schedule with sleep built-in (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to fire calls in Grand Canyon Village and any fires throughout the South Rim area. Investigate and/or report the incident working within NPS protocols.

  • Respond to EMS calls for all Xanterra properties and throughout the South Rim territory as assigned by NPS Fire Chief.

  • Participate in training sessions as designated by Xanterra Fire Captain, NPS Fire Chief, or Risk Manager.

  • Assist NPS Visitor and Resource Protection staff and/or Wildland Fire Battalion Chief, following their assignments and orders. Xanterra staff will operate under the Incident Command System for all South Rim incidents.

  • Maintain a professional working relationship with all NPS Law Enforcement, Fire Department, and Technical Rescue employees.

  • Resolve situations within your control and within guidelines as established by Risk Manager and NPS Fire Chief.

  • Compile daily logs, report to appropriate entity, and write reports in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Enroll, attend, and successfully complete ongoing training classes as determined by Fire Captain and/or NPS Fire Chief.

  • Perform BAT and Urinalysis testing to current standards on employees per company policy as needed.

  • Adhere to all Risk Management, safety, environmental, and NPS Fire Department policies.

  • May be called upon to assist with hazardous materials incidents performing to the certified level of training of each employee.

  • Must maintain current EMS certifications, Fire certifications and attend minimum annual Live Fire Refresher as hosted by NPS.

  • Complete an annual Wildland Pack Test to maintain Structural/Wildland eligibility which encompasses 45 pounds over three miles in less than 46 minutes.

  • Assist F&S Security Officers as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Fire Captain or NPS Fire Chief which may include daily, weekly, or monthly vehicle checks on fire apparatus or ambulances, cleaning of respective fire stations, snow removal, and/or cleaning of F&S vehicles and fire apparatus. 

Qualifications:

  • Obtain Incident Safety Officer (ISO) Certification within two years of hire.

  • ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 must be completed within six months of hire.

  • HazMat First Responder, and Operations certification desired.

  • Wildland (S-130/S-190) preferred, or complete within one year of hire.

  • Must possess a valid National Registry EMT Certification.

  • Must possess Arizona State Structural Firefighter I &II or equivalent IFSAC or ProBoard Certifications

  • Must possess a valid U.S. Driver’s License and comply with the Xanterra South Rim Company Vehicle Policy.

  • BAT and Urinalysis training must be successfully completed.

  • Must be at least twenty-one years of age at time of hire.

  • Ability to meet all medical and physical agility requirements for firefighters in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association Standard 1001.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and problem-solving skills, plus the ability to interact effectively with guests, employees, and other designated officials.

  • Ability to calmly deal with medical, fire, or safety situations.

  • Working knowledge of radio communications.


 

Server


 

We’re hiring Servers to Live. Work. Explore. at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon!

Job Summary:

Providing expedient, efficient and courteous service to dining room patrons in taking and delivering of food and beverage orders.

The Details:

Position Type: Seasonal or Year-Round

Pay: $14.35 per hour plus tips (Subject to AZ tip credit)

Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

 

Responsibilities:

  • Remain knowledgeable of property wide offerings, current trail conditions as it relates to water supply, closures and bus routes.

  • Remain fluid with all hours of operations for the restaurant and current menu selections throughout all meal periods.

  • Field phone calls as necessary while assisting guests with all inquiries including guest room dining orders

  • Provide prompt, attentive and courteous service to guests at all times in accordance with unit policies.

  • Accurately take, fill, deliver and charge guest orders for food and beverage using the POS system.

  • El Tovar Dining Room service team will execute In Room Dining deliveries and tray retrieval at Breakfast and Dinner

  • Be knowledgeable of all menu items including daily food specials, portions, preparation, ingredients and presentation of menu items. Be knowledgeable of wine, beer and liquor.

Qualifications:

  • Previous front of house experience in a server or Server Assistant (bussers) capacity.

  • Ability to effectively and courteously interact with a broad cross-section of dining room guests and employees.

  • Ability to safely and properly carry a food tray overhead using a single hand method.

  • Ability to accurately handle cash, room charge and credit card transactions. Server banking knowledge is preferred.

  • Ability to accurately use, enter and settle orders into the POS system.

  • Ability to learn menu items, wine service, beverage service and up-selling techniques.

  • Knowledge of ServeSafe food sanitation program.

  • Must pass company sponsored alcohol awareness class.

  • Must be available to work evening shifts, weekends, and holidays.

 

Pizza Pub Lead


 

We’re hiring a Pizza Pub Lead Attendant to Live. Work. Explore. at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon!

Job Summary:

Provide leadership in the Maswik Pizza Pub with the goal of serving customers in an efficient and friendly manner. Help train new employees, oversee service, seating area and bar as needed to ensure high quality of food, beverage, service, and cleanliness.

The Details:

Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round

Pay: $15.40 per hour

Schedule: May include weekends, evenings, and holidays.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the quality, food safety/sanitation, and timeliness of dishes served.

  • Ensure consistency in techniques to be used for proper food preparation, portioning, and plating as outlined in recipes, product rotation, and mise en place.

  • Prepares a variety of food items using knives, electric mixers, ovens, fryers, gas stoves, griddles, and broilers.

Responsibilities:

  • As directed by the Unit Management assist in training new Pizza Pub staff in serving, bussing, cleaning, stocking, side duties. Train new bartenders in the policies and procedures of Pizza Pub bar operations, including TIPS administration.

  • Participate in nightly inventory of bar operation.

  • Assist in ensuring all communications in the workplace remain positive, constructive and contribute toward a harmonious work environment.

  • Communicating with Unit Management on beverage issues, especially TIPS enforcement.

  • Assist management in employee performance with effective training, coaching, motivation, and corrective action tools.

  • Participates in the training of all new and promoted front-of-the-house employees and maintaining service standards set for that unit during all shifts.

  • Check that side duties have been completed properly, assist when needed.

  • Assist in managing staff to balance service needs and labor budget.

  • Direct employees to always follow proper sanitation procedures. Work with Chief Steward in areas of concern with sanitation practices and cleanliness issues

  • Ensure cash handling practices meet company standards.

  • Interacts with guest concerns, requests, and suggestions, table touches with every refired entrée.

  • Escalates customer concerns to management as needed

  • Ensure completion of opening and closing side duties.

  • Assist managers in planning, ordering and stocking appropriate food and beverage for dailyoperations.

  • Operate according to all serve safe and risk management policies

  • Provide courteous, efficient beverage and food service to guests.

  • Available on nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications:

  • Previous restaurant and bar experience required, pizza service experience desired.

  • Good verbal communication skills with ability to convey instructions in training new employees.

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.

  • Ability to courteously interact with a broad cross-section of guests.

  • Must be 18 years of age in accordance with Arizona State Liquor Law. Ability to learn, apply and firmly enforce Arizona State liquor laws, as well as Xanterra South Rim Alcohol policies and National Park Service requirements.

  • Ability to pass company sponsored alcohol awareness class and apply methods learned to guest situations.

  • Ability to accurately handle all types of payment transactions. Learn and operate the POS system.
